Synopsis
Filiberto is an 80-minute biographical documentary about Filiberto Ojeda Ríos (1933-2005), the foremost symbol of the contemporary armed struggle for the independence of Puerto Rico who died in a standoff with the United States Homeland Security Department. This documentary is an honest life exploration of a complex historical figure and its repercussions for the U.S. Territory.
The Story
Filiberto is the story of a man who had many names, wore many hats, and whose everyday life touched upon multiple social circles. His family and friends called him Fito as a child. He was known as El Indio among fellow musicians. Juvenal Concepción was his name according to one of his several ID cards. And Puerto Rican police labeled him the Cuban G-2 after his return from Cuba. Greco was one of his nom de guerre for his comrades inside the Macheteros. But Filiberto is the name under which he will be remembered.
